About my work Creating sculptures and decoration items is a fascinating work. To capture a movement, to shape a line, flowing transitions between nature and artificial shaping, to put together different materials, even if it is against nature, all this inspires human fantasy over and over again. Thus, I create all kinds of combinations. The original material is always a mixture of marble powder, ceramic powder, binding material and chalk. It can be manufactured into a substance which can be casted and colorized perfectly well with natural pigments. With a special surface treatment, even the unique polish of marble can be achieved. Furthermore, this material is suited for gilding. In order to show to advantage the incomparable glitter of the gold, I exclusively use gold leaf of 22.7 carat which comes usually with a ground of “Poliment”. This particular manufacturing method, however, has its disadvantage: The product is very hard. Therefore, the risk of breaking increases. This goes especially for the sculptures in their delicate elaborateness. That is why they never should be lifted or even touched with too much pressure or at their delicate parts. Every sculpture is a single copy, and an identical one is crafted only as an exception. It is, however, never an exact copy of the original but only similar to it in its posture. This second sculpture stays with me and is not for sale. Other than sculptures, I also create body casts if desired. Such casts are made in a very discrete way and only after a personal preliminary talk regarding the modality of the proceeding. Body casts are presented in exhibitions only with the explicit consent of the modelled person though they mostly pass into personal property. At this point, I want to make one thing clear: I do not regard my works as perfect. I would much more like you to compare them to nature, where not everything is perfect either. It goes against me to aim at perfection as we are already too busy to go for that in our daily and business lives. I admit it: I create things that are not badly needed, but nice to have as they fill an important space in our lives and make us feel happy. For it is the details that make our lives worth living. My first and foremost ambition at the casting of the human body is to reproduce the modelled parts of the body as lively and aesthetically as possible. For this reason it is important to have a conversation with the model in which the exact bearing and the accentuation of the particularly expressive parts of the respective body are determined. The most particular and fascinating side of a body cast is that the final object is absolutely direct and authentic (no grinding of the surface of the final cast). This is why I am careful to preserve the delicate structures of the original body surface with all its pores and tiny wrinkles as well as possible while doing the cast. Thus, a body cast becomes a unique, distinctive piece of art. To take the negative mould of the body or of its parts I use organic material and – to make it stronger – plaster bandage. Thereafter I make a blank out of a mixture of ceramic and marble powder. As soon as it is dry, the detail work is being executed. After having polished the edges, I accomplish the shaping. The final cast may be left in its natural state or can be varnished. If so, I am careful not to destroy the structures. Particular attention is also paid to the pedestal in order to present the work of art in the most attractive way. .
